If you have the privilege of being a mother because another woman entrusted you with the most precious gift on earth, the mothering her baby, please take the time to give her the most heartfelt thank you this Mother’s Day. I have often said that the words “thank you” don’t begin to convey the feelings of gratitude that we adoptive mothers feel toward our children’s birth mothers, but there are no words in the English language which adequately convey this emotion, so these will have to do.
