You may be considering placing your born or unborn baby for adoption, but you don’t know how to proceed. Ohio law has a streamlined approach for placement if your baby is under 6 months old and you work with a licensed adoption agency to place your baby. You DO NOT have to go into court to surrender you baby; however, you must wait until 3 days after the birth to sign the state surrender document. This is to make certain that you have considered the importance of your placement decision after the baby has been born. The baby can remain in the hospital during the 3 days, or, the baby can go home with the adoptive parents you have chosen until the time at which you sign the surrender document.
If you are considering placing your baby for adoption, please go to our Waiting Families page and read about these wonderful families who have been approved under state law and are ready and eager to parent. If you find a family that you like, you are welcome to meet them and get to know them better while making this very important decision for yourself and your baby.
